If you’ve been around since the early days of the personal web, you know that building a space online used to feel like setting up a digital frontier.
PromoteLiberty.org actually started all the way back in the late 90s as a simple GeoCities site—complete with raw HTML, animated GIFs, and a lot of passion. Over the decades, as the web evolved, the platform shifted through almost every era of content management:
- Moving from GeoCities to early CMS frameworks like PostNuke…
- Adapting into community forums on PHPBB2…
- Migrating to Blogger as blogging went mainstream…
- And eventually, like many of us, letting social platforms like Facebook take center stage for a while.
Each platform served its purpose for the time, but relying on third-party algorithms and walled gardens eventually takes away the essence of what made the web great in the first place: openness, independence, and full ownership of your content.
Finding Truth Through the Promotion of Liberty#
Our tagline has always been simple yet fundamental: “Finding Truth Through the Promotion of Liberty.”
In a world increasingly dominated by noise, outrage, and echo chambers, true understanding doesn’t come from top-down mandates or institutional orthodoxies. It is built through open dialogue, respectful debate, and decentralized inquiry. When free minds are able to question assumptions, test ideas, and engage in civil discourse, we cut through the noise, expand our perspectives, and uncover truth for ourselves. Liberty is not merely a political ideal—it is the essential foundation required for intellectual growth, human reason, and genuine discovery.
A Clean Slate for a Modern Stack#
When planning this relaunch, my initial instinct was to excavate the archives, convert old SQL dumps, and import every legacy post from the previous decades. But looking at a new platform it felt right to start with a clean, updated slate.
Rather than dragging along decades of outdated formatting and dead links, we are starting fresh. That said, the foundation built over those years remains, and we’ll be cross-pollinating content between this site and our broader network of social media channels and external projects. Insights posted here will feed into our community feeds, and the best discussions from across our platforms will find a permanent, open home here on the blog.
